What is museum lighting design?

Museum lighting design defines how light is distributed, aimed, and controlled within a museum or exhibition. It considers visual hierarchy, color rendering, color temperature, optics, reflection and glare control, maintenance, and the light sensitivity of collections. At Proyecto Museo, lighting is integrated into museum exhibition design from the design stage through in-gallery testing and final aiming.

Lighting design

Lighting is developed as an integral part of the museum exhibition design. The project considers visual hierarchy, visitor circulation, the reading of objects and texts, color temperature, glare and reflection control, and maintenance requirements.

Conservation and coordination

Lighting levels and criteria are defined according to the sensitivity of the collections and coordinated with architecture, display cases, mounts, graphics, audiovisual media, and control systems.

Supply and commissioning

The scope may include selection and supply of LED luminaires, optics, focusing, in-gallery testing and commissioning. Proyecto Museo has documented indoor luminaires for museum applications, including the ARTE-TRL002 model, rated at a maximum of 20 W and 100–277 V~ at 50/60 Hz.
